Dr. Shivali Gohel


Dr. Shivali Gohel is a Board Certified periodontist who is passionate about helping her patients achieve optimal oral health. In doing so, she is able to improve their overall well-being, since periodontal disease is linked to heart disease and other serious health problems. Providing an attentive, personalized treatment approach, and always aware of each person’s unique concerns, Dr. Gohel caters to each patient’s needs. Dr. Gohel’s interest in dentistry started when she was nine years old and she fractured her two front teeth. When her teeth were restored, she was amazed at the difference in her life. Restoration of her teeth not only gave her back her smile, but also restored her self-confidence. She loves helping her patients regain their oral health and confidence in the same way. Dr. Gohel is committed to providing the best possible periodontal care. She is ethical, compassionate, understanding, and loves to help others.

Dr. Gohel trained at Loma Linda University with some of the world’s best periodontists and implantologists. She is proud and humbled to be an Assistant Professor at Loma Linda University teaching in the Graduate Periodontics clinic. She attends continuing education courses throughout the country, focusing on dental implants, laser dentistry, and the latest surgical techniques and technologies. Dr. Gohel knows that staying current in a continuously changing field is the best way to provide her patients with the highest quality of care.

Personal Life

After growing up in Troy, Michigan, Dr. Gohel has lived in the Bay Park area of San Diego for several years. She has been happily married for 7 years and has a puppy named Walter. When she’s not working, Dr. Gohel loves traveling and exploring the different neighborhoods and restaurants in San Diego. She also likes keeping fit by doing yoga, spinning, and pilates. Dr. Gohel loves Indian dancing, an activity she’s pursued since she was seven. She competed regionally and nationally through college. She even taught a Bollywood fitness class while in residency!

Community Service

Dr. Gohel is active in community service and organized dentistry. She is honored to be a part of several committees associated with the San Diego County Dental Society, including the New Dentist/Recruitment & Retention Committee, the Women’s Dental Connection of which she is a co-founder, and most recently the Board of Directors. She also served on the committee for the San Diego Dental Health Foundation Gala, which raised funds for veterans receiving free dental care at Veterans Village. She is a Veterans Choice Provider, a program in which veterans can receive dental care at a private practice setting at no cost to the veteran. She loves volunteering and has participated in Give Kids a Smile Day, Team Smile, among many other events. Dr. Gohel is grateful for the opportunities in her life and believes in paying it forward to those around her.

Dr. James Sinks


Dr. Sinks is a native of San Diego, attending Clairemont High School and UCSD. He completed his undergraduate degree at UCLA and received his Doctorate of Dental Surgery from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Having practiced general dentistry in San Diego for four years before leaving for his residency in Periodontics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dr. Sinks brings a unique perspective to his periodontal practice.

To keep up with the many changes in periodontics and implant dentistry, Dr. Sinks is continuously taking courses and seminars. The emphasis of his continuing education has been on regeneration of lost supporting tissues, placement of dental implants and aesthetic periodontal procedures.

Dr. Sinks is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Western Society of Periodontology, the California Society of Periodontists and the San Diego County Periodontists. He is also a member of the Academy of Osseointegration  (The American Dental Association, California Dental Association, San Diego County Dental Society, and the Institute for Dental Implant Awareness (IDIA).

Community and Family

I have lived in Pacific Beach for the past 32 years. I have enjoyed seeing my children grow up into young adults in this community. When I am not in the office you can find me water skiing, snow skiing, sailing and camping.
